Annual Luminaria Night Celebration
December 22, 2012
More than 1,500 glowing luminarias will line the streets of Vienna this Christmas as the Vienna Heritage Foundation, with the assistance of the Chicone Ruritan Club, will once again sponsor this popular annual event. Private homes decorated for the season, historic buildings including the old Customs House and Ferry Toll Collector's House, and community churches will open their doors for tours, Christmas music, refreshments and old fashioned hospitality from 5-9pm. The Vienna trams will ferry passengers between points of interest, and maps will be provided for those who prefer to walk the candlelit streets. The Vienna Heritage Museum at 303 Race Street will serve as the Official Luminaria Night Headquarters, where information, maps, and tickets for the private home tours may be purchased. The museum will also have displays, demonstrations, and will be the main stop for the tram rides. Park at 104 Race Street, Edwin A Murphy Community Center or the Vienna Town Hall/ball field and take the free tram ride. Town Hall is located at the end of Market Street and the beginning of Elliott Island Road. Santa and some of his helpers will be in town for the evening at the former Coast Guard Station on Water Street, where he will greet the children. So be sure to bring those Christmas lists and your camera! Everyone is invited for a hot drink and treats from Santa's elves. We cordially invite you to visit our community for this Christmas celebration. Walk our candlelit streets and enjoy our brightly decorated homes. Listen to the great old Christmas Carols at our churches, and hear the laughter of the children as they whisper to St. Nick. And maybe for a few short hours, return to a time of Christmas past.
