Here are the 2012 cycling, running, and triathlon events in Dorchester County, Maryland.
Vineyard Dash Jan. 2, 2012 Vienna, MD A 5K, 10K, and walk starting at Layton's Chance Vineyard & Winery in Vienna, Maryland, on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 11am. Benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Team FROGS bike team. Children 13 and under are $5 for any event. Registration Closing Date is Friday, December 30, 2011 @ 11:59 PM PST. Registration starts at 9am on race day. Race day fees are $35 for the 5K and 10K. $18 for the walk, and children are still $5. Crab Run Half-Marathon and 5K April 14, 2012 Cambridge, MD The Crab Run Half Marathon duplicates the run course of the Eagleman Race held in June each year in Cambridge. Six Pillars Century Cycling Event May 5, 2012 Cambridge, MD The 2012 Blackwater Tour starts at the Great Marsh Park in historic Cambridge, Maryland on May 5, 2012. The majority of the bicycle ride is through the beautiful and picturesque Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. This is a show and go start event. The cycling event will include four ride choices, including a 11-mile family ride, a 37-mile fun and fitness ride, a 56-mile Ironman Eagleman 70.3 Course, and a 100-mile Century Course. TriColumbia Endurance Camp May 6, 2012 Cambridge, MD This clinic is for experienced triathletes who are looking for the opportunity to work with a select group of coaches who will focus on mental preparation, nutrition, race preparation, skill development, safety and all aspects of the key components of a triathlon (swimming, biking, running, transitioning). Biking and running training sessions will take place on the EagleMan/ChesapeakeMan triathlon course, with swimming in the Choptank River. Space is limited. Great Chesapeake Bay Wellness Race 10K/3K May 12, 2011 Cambridge, MD This event consists of a 10K foot race and a 3K fun walk. Known previously as the Eastern Shore Hospital Center 10K race for H.O.P.E. the event benefits the patients of ESHC and community efforts to de-stigmatize mental illness. Starts at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort. 10K entrants get a t-shirt and more. Top prize for male and female runners includes one night free stay at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort. Choptank Trot for Melanoma 5K Run/Walk May 12, 2011 Cambridge, MD Start and finish at Great Marsh Park on the Choptank River, near Hambrooks Boulevard and Somerset Street in Cambridge. Course takes place along beautiful waterfront Cambridge. It duplicates some of the famous EagleMan Triathlon held here in June each year. Support melanoma skin cancer awareness and research and Quota of Cambridge's local mission. Course is flat, scenic and fun. Walkers, strollers and dogs are welcome. Blackwater Duathlon June 3, 2012 Cambridge, MD A 10K run, 70K bike, and 10K run, this first-ever event has been chosen as the 2012 USAT National Long Course Duathlon Championship. Eagleman Ironman 70.3 Triathlon June 10, 2012 Cambridge, MD The EagleMan Ironman 70.3 is an official qualifier for the Ironman in Kona, Hawaii that brings more than 2,000 competitors to Cambridge from across the United States and around the world. The triathletes swim 1.2 miles in the waters of the Choptank, cycle 56 miles through the stunning Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and run 13.1 miles through the streets of the town—70.3 miles in all. More than 1,000 community volunteers help make the event happen. Most of the action happens at Cambridge's Great Marsh Park (where the race begins and finishes), but spectators are welcome anywhere along the course routes. Great Marsh Park is located at the end of Somerset Avenue, on the banks of the Choptank River. Firecracker Kids' Triathlon July 4, 2012 Cambridge, MD Cambridge Multi-Sport is proud to announce the first annual Firecracker Kid's Tri to be held at the Dorchester Family YMCA on Wednesday, July 4 in Cambridge, MD. This event will challenge kids (ages 6-12) to complete a swim, bike and run event in a highly supportive and motivating community environment. All proceeds from this event will go back to the YMCA. Registration closing date is July 2, 2012. There will be absolutely NO late or day of registrations allowed! Since this is the first year we are also limiting the number of participants to 75, please register early. Each participant will receive a finisher medal and a t-shirt. Awards will be issued to the top male and female finishers in each age group. As this is not a loop ride, you can ride as much or as little as you like. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 9:00 a.m. You are free to ride at your own pace but we request that you return by 2:00 p.m. when route services end. Ride is limited to 200 participants. Start at the Neck District Volunteer Fire Co., Inc., 954 Cooks Point Road Cambridge, Maryland. Directions: From U.S. Route 50 and Maryland Route 343, follow MD Route 343 to Cooks Point Road. The ride will be on Sunday, September 16 and feature 3 great rides - Metric Century (64 miles), Mid-Distance Ride (33 miles) and a Fun Family Ride (6 miles). We encourage riders to stop and enjoy a Music Festival and The Native American Festival (tickets to both festivals are included in the registration fee) during their stop in Vienna. ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival September 29, 2012 Cambridge, MD The ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival, in Cambridge on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, includes multiple events: The ChesapeakeMan Ultra Triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run), Skipjack Triathlon (1.2 Mile Swim, 64 Mile Bike, 10 Mile Run), AquaBike (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike), and the Bugeye (800-yard swim, 15-mile bike, 3.1-mile run). The ChesapeakeMan, a one-day, 140.6-mile race, was named one of the top 10 ultra triathlons in the world by Triathlete magazine in 2010; other races in the top 10 happen in Germany, Italy, Israel, Uruguay, and Kona, Hawaii. Horn Point Laboratory Spat Dash 5K and 10K October 13, 2012 Cambridge, MD The race course is over mixed terrain: paved road, gravel road and well maintained trail through the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science campus. Along the route you will be able to enjoy our beautiful woods and scenic views of the Choptank River. Proceeds fund children's programs at Horn Point Laboratory. Walkers welcome. The terrain is dead flat, the scenery is spectacular and the roads are quiet. It's perfect for everyone from beginners just getting into the sport to seasoned pros who want some end of season miles to stretch their legs. Come the day before and enjoy kayaking and self-guided bike tours of the area. This event is organized by Georgena Terry, founder of Terry Precision Cycling, "the original women's bicycling company." The ride benefits Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge; the 2011 Wild Goose Chase generated more than $40,000 for the refuge. Register on active.com.
